Haemostasis & Surgical Sealing

Haemostasis & Surgical Sealing
In surgery, the ability of the surgeon to control bleeding quickly can help reduce complications and lead to improved patient outcomes . Baxter has an extending range of haemostats and surgical sealing products that incorporate technology based on natural physiological processes. These products when applied peri-operatively can assist surgeons in their efforts to control bleeding independent of the coagulation status of their patient.
Need for Surgical Haemostasis

Surgeons have to hand a variety of tools to help them prevent or arrest bleeding during surgery.

Bleeding episodes occur that are too difficult to control by standard methods such as cautery or sutures.

Some surgical procedures can cause diffuse bleeding and from sites that are difficult to access.

Some patients may have congenital coagulation deficiencies or be under medication that has compromised their ability to clot as quickly or effectively as normal such as patients undergoing cardio-pulmonary bypass surgery.Whatever the reason, surgical haemostats are a useful addition to the surgeons toolkit.

Need for Surgical Sealing
Surgeons sometimes need to obtain a fluid-tight seal after suturing together two tissue planes. Surgical sealants can help a surgeon attain this seal, for example when joining two blood vessels together or preventing cerebro-spinal fluid leakage during neurosurgery.
